April 3, 2008
A daily average of 200 persons have been receiving free medical and legal services while around 700 commuters and more than 100 senior citizen cardholders in Metro Manila have been enjoying free bus and MRT rides in the morning show “Good Morning Kuya” hosted by seasoned broadcaster Daniel S. Razon and aired on UNTV 37 from 4:45 to 9 in the morning from Monday to Friday.
These services are the highlights of 3 segments of the said morning program which are designed to underscore the positioning of UNTV 37 as “your public service channel.” The three segments involve rendering public services at no cost to the beneficiary, namely, “Clinic ni Kuya” for medical services, “Law Center ni Kuya” for legal assistance, and “Libreng Sakay” which offers free rides to commuters within Metro Manila. In addition, the station UNTV 37 undertakes Medical Mission activities as part of its outreach program.
From July 2007 to January of this year, “Clinic ni Kuya” has tallied a total of 20,761 walk-in patients who availed themselves of free medical services and medicines, while “Law Center ni Kuya” registered a total of 1,653 persons who received free legal advice and assistance from July of last year to February, 2008. Meanwhile from July 2007 to January 2008, 15,313 indigents benefited from the station’s Medical Mission activities in such places as Catanduanes; Obando, Bulacan; Apalit, Pampanga; and Bagong Diwa, Taguig and many others.
Jay Sonza, veteran broadcaster, UNTV news anchor, and current UNTV station manager, said that these public services will continue and even increase as the station expands its operations. “We are a public service-oriented TV station and we stake our positioning on public service, to the extent that all our shows and programs revolve around this concept.”
So far, Sonza added, the viewing public has been very responsive judging from the volume of positive comments from televiewers received through texting as well as through the UNTV website, which is registering an average of 93,000 visitors daily, as documented in the visitor log. These visitors, mostly Filipinos abroad, have been regularly viewing UNTV 37 programs via the said website.
